How expensive did domestic LPG cylinders become during the tenure of Modi government, where did the subsidy go?

Compared to May 1, 2014, just before the formation of the Modi government, a non-subsidised cylinder is cheaper by Rs 44 in Delhi as compared to Rs 928.5 on May 1, 2014. Let us tell you that the rates of cylinders may seem less than the Manmohan Singh government today, but it is becoming very expensive for the consumers who take subsidy.

Let us tell you that on June 1, 2014, the price of non-subsidized LPG cylinder was Rs 905 per cylinder, while the cost of subsidized LPG cylinder was Rs 414. The UPA government had decided in September 2012 that people would get six subsidized cylinders a year, which was later increased to nine in Delhi in January 2013.

After a hike of Rs 25 on September 1, the price of 14.2 kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up to Rs 884.50. If we talk about both the terms of Modi government, then non-subsidized LPG cylinder in Delhi is cheaper by Rs 355.50 as compared to January 2014.

The price of LPG cylinder in Delhi was Rs 694 in January this year, which was increased to Rs 719 per cylinder in February. On February 15, the price was increased to Rs 769. After this, on February 25, the price of LPG cylinder was reduced to Rs 794. In March, the price of LPG cylinder was reduced to Rs 819.

The price of subsidized LPG has been increased by a total of Rs 165 per cylinder from January 1. The government has abolished the subsidy on LPG by increasing the rates every month. The price of domestic LPG has more than doubled in the last seven years. The retail selling price as on March 1, 2014 was Rs.414.

The rates of non-subsidised LPG were increased in the same proportion on August 1, and now the prices of subsidized LPG have been increased. Also, there is hardly any difference in the rates of subsidized and non-subsidised LPG. On January 1, 2014, a non-subsidized LPG cylinder in Delhi was priced at Rs 1241.
