You are going to travel somewhere by train but suddenly due to some reason you have to change your plan. In such a situation, you have to cancel the train ticket. But on canceling the ticket, your hefty amount is deducted. Let us tell you how much amount is deducted on cancellation of ticket.
E-tickets can be canceled on the IRCTC website till the preparation of the train chart. If the passenger wishes to cancel his e-ticket, he can do so till the chart is prepared for the train. The chart for the train starting by 12 noon is usually prepared on the previous night.
Charges for canceling e-tickets before preparing train charts
- If the confirmed ticket is canceled 48 hours before the departure time of the train, then flat cancellation charge of Rs 240 for AC First / Executive Class and Rs 200 for AC 2 Tier / First Class will be deducted. For AC 3 Tier / AC Chair Car / AC 3 Economy Rs 180, for sleeper class Rs 120 and for second class Rs 80 cancellation charge is deducted per passenger.
- If a confirmed ticket is canceled up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the cancellation charge will be 25% of the minimum flat rate fare. Cancellation charges 50% of the fare will be deducted less than 12 hours and up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train till chart preparation. Keep in mind that the time of preparing the chart is considered to be from the originating station of the train or from the last station.
Charges for cancellation of e-ticket after preparation of reservation chart
The e-ticket cannot be canceled after the preparation of the reservation chart. Passengers can use online TDR filing for such cases and track refund status through the tracking service provided by IRCTC. TDR can be filed as per the rules of Railways.
- No refund of fare is available on tickets with confirmed reservation in case the ticket is not canceled or TDR is not filed online within four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
- In RAC e-tickets, if the ticket is not canceled within thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train or the TDR is not filed online, the refund will not be available.
Cancellation charge on Tatkal tickets booked as e-tickets
No refund is available on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. Charges are deducted for cancellation of waitlisted Tatkal tickets. Partial cancellation of Tatkal e-tickets is allowed.
Charges for cancellation of ticket in case of train cancellation
If the train is canceled due to flood, accident etc., then full refund is available on cancellation of the ticket within three days of the scheduled departure of the train.
