What are the flight cancellation rules?

One of the many problems related to flights and airlines is the airline cancellation policy. Many times, airline ticket cancellation charges become so high that only a few rupees are returned out of thousands of tickets. Airlines deduct huge amounts of money in the name of cancellation charges and convenience fees etc.

Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued instructions regarding ticket cancellation of passengers. According to this, if your flight gets canceled for any reason then airline companies give you two options. Firstly, they provide alternative flight arrangements for you or a full refund of your ticket. However, if you have to cancel your ticket for some reason, then the rules for this are different.

this much money will be deducted

Airlines always mention the cancellation charges and rules on their websites. According to the information available on Indio’s website, if you cancel your ticket 0 to 3 days before departure, you will be charged a cancellation charge of Rs 3500 or airfare charge, whichever is less. Whereas if you cancel 4 or more days before departure, a cancellation charge of Rs 3000 or the airfare, whichever is less, will be deducted from your ticket. If you book a ticket 7 days before the journey and cancel the ticket within 24 hours, you get a full refund. But if you have booked a ticket under any offer of the airlines, then no refund will be given on cancellation of the ticket. These conditions related to cancellation charges apply to domestic flights.
