How To Check Income Tax Refund Status?

In the current fiscal until 11 January, the income tax department has provided refunds of over Rs 1.73 lakh crore to more than 1.57 crore taxpayers. In this, Rs 57,139 crore is the amount of personal income tax refunds, while Rs 1.15 lakh crore is worth corporate tax refunds. Tax refunds are usually issued by the Centralized Processing Centre within 20-45 days of the date of completion of ITR processing. That being said, in the event of a mismatch between the tax return filed and the information available to the tax department, a refund may be postponed. It could also be disrupted in the event that the listed bank account details are inaccurate. Two ways to confirm the status of your refund are valid. You must check this on the portal of the National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) and on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department.

Process to check ITR status via NSDL

  • Visit the NSDL website and enter the required details such as PAN, Aadhaar and assessment year.
  • Click on ‘Proceed’
  • On your device screen, your income tax refund status will be stated.

Process to check ITR status via e-filing portal

  • Sign in to the e-filing portal of the IT Department
  • Now click on the view returns or forms,
  • Head to ‘My Account’ section and click on the ‘Income Tax Returns’
  • On your device screen, your income tax refund status will be displayed.
  • You will get a notification if the refund has already been processed by the department.
