Monsoon Rain Updates: The Meteorological Department estimates that monsoon is going to rain heavily from June to September. It also predicted that seven states in the North and North-East may receive less monsoon rains this year.
Monsoon Rain Updates: Amidst the scorching heat in most parts of the country, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says that this year there is a possibility of more than normal monsoon rains across the country. IMD officials also said that the impact of monsoon may be less in some states of the North and Northeast. This means that the heat may continue here. IMD Chief says that between June and September, more than normal rainfall is expected across the country, but some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh may receive less than normal rainfall.
How much monsoon rain will there be in Delhi-UP
IMD chief Mrityunjay Mohapatra said rainfall is likely to be 106 per cent of average (LPA) between June and September. He said that there are chances of normal rain in North-West India including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Western Uttar Pradesh. According to him, these areas may receive 92 to 108 percent rainfall of LPA, which falls in the normal category. However, there is a possibility of below normal rainfall in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal.
Less than normal rainfall expected in north-eastern states too
According to Mohapatra, there is a possibility of below normal rainfall in Odisha and adjoining Ganga region of West Bengal, South Chhattisgarh and many parts of North-Eastern states. He said that even in rain-fed agriculture sector, rainfall is likely to be more than normal. Which includes parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
Let us tell you that if the rainfall is less than 90 percent of the LPA, then it is considered as less rainfall. According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall between 90 to 95 percent is considered below normal, between 96 to 104 percent is normal and between 105 to 110 percent is considered above normal.
Clouds will rain heavily in other parts of the country
Mahapatra said that under the long term average, the entire country receives an average rainfall of 87 cm between June 1 and September 30. He said that there is a possibility of more than normal rainfall in Central India and South Peninsula. According to him, these areas may receive 94 to 106 percent rainfall of LPA.
Where has the monsoon reached now?
Mahapatra said that the southwest monsoon has extended to most parts of south and east central Bay of Bengal. During the next five days, favorable conditions are seen for the advance of Monsoon into some more parts of South Arabian Sea, parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and some parts of Bay of Bengal and northeastern states.
