According to the Meteorological Department, heat wave will continue in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on May 21. There is a possibility of heavy to moderate rain in Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The scourge of extreme heat continues in the country. Many states of North India are in the grip of heat wave these days. According to the Meteorological Department, heat wave will continue in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on May 21. There is a possibility of heavy to moderate rain in Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Delhi’s climate

Severe heat wave alert has been issued in Delhi from 21st to 24th May. During this period it may remain partly cloudy and strong winds are also likely to blow. The temperature in Delhi is expected to reach 46 degrees this week. According to IMD, the maximum temperature of Delhi can remain between 44 to 46 degrees Celsius this entire week. The minimum temperature is likely to be between 29 to 32 degrees Celsius.

According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, there is no possibility of any major weather system bringing relief from the scorching heat in Delhi. In fact, clear sky and strong sunlight are increasing the heat, creating conditions of extreme heat.

Severe heat wave warning in these states

According to IMD, heat wave to severe heat wave is likely to prevail in isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, many parts of West Rajasthan, parts of East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and West Madhya Pradesh on May 21, 2024. There is a possibility of heat wave in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand.

Rain alert here

According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, during the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to occur over Kerala with heavy to very heavy rain at some places. While light to moderate rain is possible in some parts of Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and Andaman Nicobar Islands, heavy rain is possible at some places. Apart from this, there may be light to moderate rain in Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Uttarakhand and Northeast India. Light rain is possible in Western Himalayas, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Southern Madhya Pradesh.

Seasonal activities of the country

According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, a circulation has formed over the interior part of Tamil Nadu which extends up to 5.8 above mean sea level. At the same time, a cyclonic wind area is formed over northwestern Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, a trough from this cyclonic circulation extends to Gangetic West Bengal through eastern Uttar Pradesh, South Bihar and Jharkhand. An area of cyclonic winds is formed over Central Maharashtra. A trough is extending from central Maharashtra to Karnataka coast.
