Senior Meteorologist Dr. Soma Sen Roy said, ‘The monsoon has arrived before time. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rains have occurred in parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka in the last 2-3 days.’
Rainfall Update: The southwest monsoon is slowly moving towards North India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a warning of very heavy rains in many parts of the country. According to this, heavy rains are expected in some areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka in the next 24 hours. IMD’s Senior Meteorologist Dr. Soma Sen Roy said, ‘The monsoon has knocked before time. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rains have occurred in some parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka in the last 2-3 days. At present, it is expected that very heavy rains will continue in these areas. Clouds are going to rain in South-Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Coastal Karnataka. Also, very heavy rains are expected in some parts of North Interior Karnataka.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said that there is no news of any major waterlogging in the city due to the rain on Monday night. Traffic is normal. Movement has slowed down at some places. Suburban rail services are running with some delay. He said that within the last 24 hours till 8 am, 37.74 mm of rain was recorded in the island city, 17.13 mm in East Mumbai and 12.39 mm in West Mumbai. On Tuesday morning, the sky was overcast, but there was no rain in most parts of the city. It is known that the southwest monsoon reached Mumbai on June 9, 2 days before the normal date of June 11.
There will be rain in these states during the next 7 days
According to IMD, there is going to be rain in many parts of the country during the next 7 days. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Sikkim will receive rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds. Light to moderate rain is expected at some of these places. The Meteorological Department said, ‘Heavy rain is likely in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh between June 10 and 14. Rains are likely in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on June 10, 13 and 14. Heavy rain is also likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Bengal and Sikkim from June 11 to 14 and in Arunachal Pradesh on June 13 and 14.’
