Monsoon: Giving good news, the Meteorological Department has said that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into South Andaman Sea, parts of southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands around May 19.

Monsoon Forecast: Amidst the scorching heat in North India, people are waiting for the monsoon rains. In the national capital Delhi, the maximum temperature has even crossed 47 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the entry of monsoon in Kerala is likely to happen at the end of this month, but monsoon is going to reach Andaman and Nicobar tomorrow. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over south Peninsular India till May 23 and extremely heavy rainfall is likely during May 19-21.

Giving good news, the Meteorological Department has said that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into South Andaman Sea, parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands around May 19. There is a possibility of heavy rain due to this. It further said that a cyclonic circulation lies over lower and mid-tropospheric levels over South Interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas.

According to the IMD, widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep. Scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) will occur over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana and Rayalaseema, South Karnataka during next 7 days.

The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka from May 19-22, South Interior Karnataka from May 21-22, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema from May 18 and Lakshadweep from May 18-21.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe on 18 and 22 May and over South Interior Karnataka during 18-20 May. It said there is also a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during May 19-21. Light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds is likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh on May 18 and 19.
