IMD Rainfall Alert: A pressure area persists over the central parts of South Bay of Bengal and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean. It is likely to move northwestwards and turn into a deep pressure during the next 24 hours. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry on 26, 27 and 28 November. Apart from this, heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh from 26 to 29 November, 2024. At the same time, winds are also going to blow at a speed of 75 km in some areas in the coming days.
The Meteorological Department has said that on November 25, winds are likely to blow at a speed of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over the southwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka coast. Winds are likely to blow at a speed of 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast. At the same time, on November 26, winds are likely to blow at a speed of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts. Apart from this, winds can blow at a speed of 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph in the same area during November 27 to 29.
The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to go to sea. The Meteorological Department said, fishermen present in the sea are advised to return to the coasts today i.e. 25 November 2024. Fishermen are advised not to go to the southeastern Bay of Bengal and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean on November 25, 2024. Do not go to the southwestern Bay of Bengal and the Sri Lankan coast till November 29, 2024. Apart from this, fishermen should not go to the west-central Bay of Bengal during 26-29 November 2024 and Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts till November 29 and South Andhra Pradesh coast during 26 to 29 November 2024.
What will be the impact?
The Meteorological Department has said that its effect will be seen on the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh. Waterlogging may occur in roads and low-lying areas. Due to heavy rains, visibility may decrease in some places. Traffic may be disrupted in major cities due to waterlogging on the roads. There may be minor damage to unpaved roads. At the same time, horticulture and standing crops may be damaged in some areas due to waterlogging.
