Meteorological Department has predicted rain for the next five days in many districts including the capital Delhi, UP, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand. Heavy rain is expected at many places.
IMD Rainfall Alert: Monsoon has once again showered its love on North India. It is raining heavily in the capital Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the rain will continue for the next five days. Many areas of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra may receive heavy rains on August 5. At least 87 routes have been blocked due to heavy rains and cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh. The number of landslides has increased in the last five days.
Devastation in Himachal and Uttarakhand
An alert of moderate rain with thunderstorms has been issued in Himachal Pradesh till August 8. The death toll in last week’s landslide in Himachal Pradesh has risen to 221 and 13 respectively, while more than 370 people, including pilgrims stranded on the footpath of Kedarnath Yatra in Uttarakhand, have been rescued safely. More than 10,000 people have been rescued so far from Kedarnath, Bhimbali and Gaurikund. Last Wednesday, the footpath of Kedarnath Yatra was severely damaged due to cloudburst in Junglechatti near Lincholi.
Army personnel have been deployed in waterlogged residential areas in Pune, Maharashtra amid heavy rains and release of water from Khadakvasla dam, officials said. In view of the release of water from Khadakvasla, Mulshi, Pavana and other dams in Pune region, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked officials to remain alert. Apart from this, it has also been directed that if needed, steps should be taken to shift people from dangerous areas to safer places with the help of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Army. Irrigation department officials said that 35,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water was released from Khadakvasla dam in Pune district on Sunday following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas in the last fortnight.
Heavy rains increased trouble in Jammu and Kashmir
Some buildings were damaged in Jammu and Kashmir, while the Srinagar-Leh National Highway was closed due to flash floods caused by cloudburst in Ganderbal district. The closure of the highway has cut off the connection of Kashmir Valley with Ladakh, while the Baltal base camp for Amarnath Yatra was also affected. Due to heavy rains in Jharkhand, some rivers of the state are in spate, due to which the East Singhbhum district administration has had to issue an alert for the people living in low-lying areas. Due to continuous rains in the state, the water level of Kharkai and Swarnarekha rivers has been rising for the last few days. According to an official release, the water level of the Swarnarekha river was 116.58 meters at 9 am on Sunday, while the danger mark is 121.50 meters. Flood-like conditions have also arisen in Valsad, Gujarat. At the same time, an alert for heavy rain has been issued in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. Rivers are in spate here.
Where will it rain
According to Skymet Weather, there may be rain in Sikkim, Assam, Jharkhand, South Bihar, North Chhattisgarh, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Konkan, Goa and Coastal Karnataka in the next 24 hours. Apart from this, heavy rain is expected in some areas of West Bengal, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal and Uttarakhand. Light rain is expected in the rest of the country.
