IMD Update: Orange alert issued due to fog in many states, chances of rain in these states

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert due to fog in many North Indian states including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and UP. IMD has also expressed the possibility of rain in many states.

Orange alert due to fog

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in many North Indian states including Delhi due to fog. Today, there may be light rain at isolated places along with snowfall in Uttarakhand and Himachal. However, there is no chance of rain in Delhi. The morning started with dense fog in the capital Delhi today. Although the fog was less visible compared to Wednesday, a further drop in the temperature has been recorded. Visibility has been recorded as less than 50 meters. Even on Wednesday, visibility was reduced to less than 50 meters across Delhi city. Due to this, road, rail and air traffic was disrupted.

Trains running late

The operation of many trains has also been affected due to fog and low visibility. Railways said in a statement that the timing of many trains has been changed at New Delhi Railway Station on Thursday morning. This caused problems to the passengers reaching the railway station early in the morning. At least 22 trains running from Delhi alone were running late on Thursday. The situation was similar on Wednesday, as of 8 am, more than 40 flights were delayed. Some had to be cancelled. This includes 12 international and 27 domestic flights.

No relief in next few days

The Meteorological Department said on Thursday that till Sunday, December 31, there will be very dense fog in the morning in the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, UP and Uttarakhand. According to IMD, visibility is expected to be between 0 to 50 meters during this period. Talking about cold due to fog, the temperature is expected to be between 6-10 degrees Celsius in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh.

Chance of rain in these states

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of rain in the north-west and central Indian states between January 31 and January 2. IMD says that a drop in temperature along with rain can be seen in more than 16 cities of Rajasthan. Talking about South Indian states, light rain is expected in some districts of Andhra Pradesh today. According to the Meteorological Department website, light rain is possible in Kerala and Tamil Nadu from December 31.
