This year, there has been heavy rainfall in all parts of the country. The rain continues even after the beginning of September. According to IMD, this series of rains is expected to continue till the whole of October. Meanwhile, a big update has come from the Meteorological Department regarding La-Nina. According to IMD, the beginning of La Nina can be seen in the month of September.
Usually occurring at the end of the monsoon season, La Nina is known to bring a sharp drop in temperature. It is often seen that with this the rainfall increases and the possibility of severe cold increases in the future. According to the Meteorological Department, rain is expected in all parts of North India in the month of September. Due to the effect of La Nina, it may also rain in October.
What is La Nina and El Nino
Just as small changes in sea surface temperature can cause major changes in the atmosphere, similarly El Nino and La Nina events can change the weather pattern around the world. During El Nino, the surface temperature is warmer than normal. On the other hand, during La Nina, it becomes colder than normal. During the La-Nina event, strong easterly winds push the sea water westward, due to which the sea surface cools rapidly and there are chances of cloud cover and rain in the sky. Also, after the rain, the chances of severe cold increase.
Monsoon may end late
According to the Meteorological Department, due to La Nina, the monsoon is expected to return again in September. Due to La Nina, there can be strong ‘cyclonic activity’ in the Bay of Bengal, due to which there is a possibility of rain in September and October as well. In such a situation, there may be a delay in the end of the monsoon.
