LUCKNOW: Given the spike in Covid second wave cases and the extension of the lockdown in the state, speculation is rife that UP Board examinations are likely to be cancelled. On April 15, the state government had postponed the UP Board classes 10 and 12 exams, which were scheduled from May 8, and had said that the new dates would be announced in the first week of May.
Senior UP Secondary Education Board officials said consultation with Chief Minister is underway on cancelling the exams.
ICSE and CBSE Class 10 exams have been cancelled while ISC and CBSE Class 12 exams have been postponed.
Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, who holds the education portfolio, and additional chief secretary, secondary education, have tested Covid positive. Besides, 17 out of the 19 secondary education officials have been unable to join work after they contracted Covid.“Considering the rapid rise in infected cases, it will be risky to conduct exams for such a large number of students. A plan is being worked out,” said an official.
This year, over 56 lakh candidates have registered for UP Board classes 10 and 12 exams.
