New Delhi: Electricity consumption in the country grew by 12.6 per cent to 25.38 billion units (BU) in the first week of June. This information has been given in the official figures. These figures show that the pace of recovery in commercial and industrial power demand in the country remains sluggish. According to the data of the Ministry of Power, the consumption of electricity in the first week of June last year was 22.53 billion units.
Experts say that due to the lower base effect of last year, the pace of recovery in power consumption and demand has been sluggish. Last year, for the entire month of June, electricity consumption was down by about 11 percent to 105.08 billion units. In June, 2019 it was 117.98 billion units.
Know how much was consumed in the first week of May,
despite the lockdown and restrictions in many states due to the second wave of the Kovid-19 epidemic, the electricity consumption in the first week of May this year was 26.24 billion units. In this sense, there has been a decline of 3.35 percent in the power consumption in the first week of June as compared to the first week of May.
What was the consumption in June last year
The peak power demand in the first week of June increased by about 15 percent to 168.72 GW (June 7) compared to the previous year. It was 146.53 GW on June 6 last year. The peak power demand in June 2019 was 181.52 GW (June 4). The peak peak power demand for the entire June last year declined to 164.98 GW from 182.45 GW in the same month last year.
