Income Tax Notice: Many times people make some fake papers to get Income Tax Refund. These include fake house rent, fake donation or by increasing some expenses in a wrong way. However, now there is no mercy for those who commit such fraud. The Income Tax Department is preparing to investigate any suspicious case and strict action can be taken if such fraud is found.

The Income Tax Department is planning to verify such high-risk refund claims during the financial year 2023-24 or assessment year 2024-25. The purpose of this verification is to find out whether tax refund is being taken by any individual or in an organized manner by giving wrong information.

Common phone-emails are being investigated

The Income Tax Department is trying to find out whether fake house rent allowance has been claimed from the same common email ID or mobile number. It will also be checked whether deduction under 80G has been claimed through fake donation. Or whether someone has saved income tax in a wrong way by exaggerating his expenses.

SOP instructions issued

The Directorate of Income Tax Systems has issued SOP instructions for such high risk income tax refund cases. This SOP has also been sent to all the assessing officers, TDS charge officers and officials of the investigation wing. Let us tell you that the Directorate of Income Tax Systems comes under the Ministry of Finance.

Pattern of common email-mobile number seen

According to media reports, the SOP states that many refund claims have been made by wrongly claiming TDS credit, showing less income, showing increased deductions and showing fake expenses. This matter came to light when it was seen that many returns have been filed from the same email ID or mobile number. Now there is also talk of forwarding this matter to the nodal officers of the Central Registry Units.

Fraudsters are being identified

Tax officials have been asked to trace those people who have used common email IDs or mobile numbers through the Insight Portal and e-filing portal. Such people can be asked to verify the matter by sending a notice from the Income Tax Department. Strict action can be taken against those who commit fraud.
