It is being claimed that the central government has announced exemption from paying tax to a section of the population. However, during investigation this claim turned out to be fake.

PIB i.e. Press Information Bureau has shared the screenshot of the viral post. It is being claimed that people above 75 years of age will not have to pay tax. According to the viral post with the English message, ‘Big announcement of the central government. These people will not have to pay tax. … Senior citizens above 75 years of age will not have to pay tax on their income.’
The truth came out
In the investigation, this message has been found to be fake. PIB wrote, ‘A message is being circulated on social media that since India is celebrating its 75th anniversary of independence, senior citizens above 75 years of age will no longer have to pay tax. This message is fake.’
PIB has informed that senior citizens above 75 years of age, whose income is only from pension and interest, are exempted from filing ITR. Also, if any tax is applicable, then the designated bank deducts it after calculating the income and eligible deductions.
