Income Tax Return: Big news! After filing ITR, verify it like this, otherwise it will be invalid

Income Tax Return: If it does not reach the account on time, i.e. within 120 days of filing, your return will not be verified and the process of filing return will not be completed.

Verification within 120 days

Verification has to be done within 120 days of filing ITR. So if you are using any physical process to verify your ITR, make sure that it reaches the Income Tax Department on time. If it does not reach the account on time, i.e. within 120 days of filing, your return will not be verified and the return filing process will not be completed.

Check the status of verification in these ways

  • First of all go to this link https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal.
  • On the home page, scroll down to the ‘Our Services’ section. Check Income Tax Return (ITR) status under this section.
  • Then a new page will open on your screen. Receipt number for filing ITR and entered by you while filing ITR
    mobile number.
  • After entering these details, One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number through SMS.
  • This OTP will be valid only for 15 minutes. Enter OTP and click on submit.
  • Status will be displayed as ‘ITR Verified’
  • After entering the OTP, the current status of ITR will be shown.
  • If the ITR-V has arrived in the Income Tax Account, the status will be shown as ‘ITR-Verified’.
  • If you haven’t reached the tax department yet, it will show as ‘Pending e-Verification’ status.
  • After receipt of ITR-V by the Income Tax Department, you will receive a message through e-mail or SMS.
  • If your ITR has been verified. After this the ITR process will start.
