ITR Filing: Due to non-linking of PAN and Aadhaar, taxpayers will suffer the most while filing ITR. If you have filed ITR before linking PAN with Aadhaar to claim any pending tax refund, you will not get income tax refund till PAN-Aadhaar is linked.
The deadline to link Aadhar card with PAN is over. The Income Tax Department had set June 30, 2023 as the last date for linking Aadhaar with PAN. If you have not linked PAN card with Aadhaar then your PAN card has become useless. That is, you will have trouble in doing the important work related to it. You will have to pay more money for filing income tax return. Let’s understand how?
ITR file to be done by 31st July
Taxpayers have to file ITR by 31 July 2023. You will not be able to file ITR when PAN card is inactive. This is because the income tax deadline is less than a month away and it will take a maximum of 30 days to activate the PAN card. If a PAN card is currently inactive, it can be activated again after paying the fine. In such a situation, till the PAN card is activated, there is a possibility of missing the deadline for filing ITR.
How much will be the fine
People whose PAN card has become in-operative since July 1 due to non-linking of PAN and Aadhaar will face the biggest loss while filing ITR. Your old PAN card will not be accepted on the website of the Income Tax Department. You will have to pay 1000 rupees to activate it again but this process will take 1 month, while the last date for filing tax return is 31 July. If you default and the total income is more than Rs 5 lakh, then Rs 5000 late fee will have to be paid. In such a case, if you activate PAN and file the return, then you will have to pay ITR late fee of Rs 5000 and Aadhaar-PAN linking Rs 1000. That means there will be a shock of 6000 rupees. However, if your total income does not exceed Rs 5 lakh, then you will have to pay a late fee of Rs 1,000 for late ITR filing. This means that instead of 6 thousand rupees, you will have to pay only 2 thousand rupees.
Only then will you be allowed to link PAN with Aadhaar.
You will be able to file ITR only if you have already paid the penalty for linking PAN and Aadhaar. That is, if you had paid the fine till June 30 for linking PAN and Aadhaar, then only you would be allowed to link PAN with Aadhaar. According to the tweet of the Income Tax Department, if the fine for linking has been paid by June 30 and the PAN is not linked, then it will be considered by the department. If you have filed ITR before linking PAN with Aadhaar to claim any pending tax refund, you will not get income tax refund till PAN-Aadhaar is linked.
