Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that Indian citizens can come to Malaysia without a visa from December 1 and stay for 30 days.
According to Malaysian government data, 283,885 tourists came from India between January and June this year. During the same period in 2019, 354,486 tourists came to Malaysia from India. Thailand and Sri Lanka have also provided visa free entry facility to Indians to promote tourism.
India established diplomatic relations with Malaysia (then Malaya) in the year 1957. The number of people of Indian origin in Malaysia is around 27 lakh 50 thousand, which is about nine percent of the population there.
90 percent of people of Indian origin are Tamil speaking. The rest speak Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and other languages. About 1 lakh 30 thousand Indian migrants work in Malaysia. Among the countries from which most tourists come to Malaysia, India is at sixth position. More than six lakh tourists came there in 2018.
Similarly, among the countries from which most tourists come to India, Malaysia is also at sixth position. In the same year, about 3.25 lakh Malaysian tourists came to India. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had signed an agreement on tourism during his visit to Malaysia in 2010.
Countries where India gets visa free entry
Now Indian citizens do not need a visa to enter 19 countries. If you have a passport then you can travel to these 19 countries without a visa.
Apart from this, according to the website of the Ministry of External Affairs, Visa on Arrival facility is available for Indians in 26 countries.
E-Visa will have to be obtained for 25 countries and for entry into 11 countries, either Visa on Arrival or E-Visa can be chosen.

Last month, Thailand had also announced that tourists from India and Taiwan can come to it for six months without a visa. This scheme will continue from November 10 this year to May 10, 2024.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Shretha Thavisin had said, “We will give visa free entry to Indians and Taiwanese because a lot of people come to our country from there.”
Similarly, the Sri Lankan Cabinet has approved issuing free visas to citizens of India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand under a pilot project till March 31, 2024.
Vietnam is also considering allowing visa-free entry for citizens of India and China. Currently, citizens of Germany, France, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Denmark and Finland can get visa free entry there.
For the remaining countries it is giving e-Visa for a period of 90 days.
