Senior citizens will get discount
The central government can make some changes in the terms and conditions. According to information received from sources, the government can make concessional fare facility for people above 70 years. Earlier this rule was for women of 58 years and men of 60 years. According to media reports, the main reason behind this is to balance the financial burden on the railways by giving these concessions while retaining the subsidy for the elderly. This concession can be done in sleeper and normal class. At present, these are some of the options on which the Railways is preparing. However, these rules have not been finalized yet.
50% discount was available
Before March 2020, Indian Railways used to give 50 percent discount on fare to women and 40 percent for men for traveling in all classes in case of senior citizens. To take this exemption from the railways, the minimum age for elderly women was 58 years and for men 60 years. But after the Corona period, all the concessions given to them have been abolished.
Railways is considering
At the same time, the Railways is considering starting another option ‘Premium Tatkal’ scheme. This will help the Railways to increase its earnings. At present, this scheme is applicable in about 80 trains of the country. Let us tell you that the Premium Tatkal scheme is a quota started by the Railways. In which some seats have been fixed. In which last minute passengers can book it by paying higher fare. This makes it convenient for the passengers to get tickets. Premium Tatkal fare includes basic fare plus additional Tatkal fees.
