The fixed limit of free luggage for a child above five years of age and below 12 years is 50 kg. You are allowed to take half of your luggage with you. Railways impose heavy fines for non-compliance. In such a situation, care should be taken before travelling.

How much luggage can be carried in which class?

  • In First AC class 70 kg, Marginal 15 kg, Maximum (including free) 150 kg.
  • In second AC category 50 kg, marginal 10 kg, maximum 100 kg.
  • In Third AC category 40 kg, Marginal 10 kg maximum 40 kg.
  • In slipper category 40 kg, marginal 10 kg, maximum 80 kg.
  • 35 kg in second class category, marginal 10 kg, maximum 70 kg.

Fine may be imposed

Railways has also set some margin if a passenger finds more than a certain amount of luggage during the journey, but if the luggage is heavier than this, there is a provision of a fine six times the booking amount. Also, if banned items are found, action can be taken by RPF and GRP. There is a provision even for jail.

Do this if you have extra luggage

If the passenger has large and heavy luggage, he will have to get it booked at the parcel counter by showing the ticket. That luggage can be carried in the luggage vehicle. For this, the rate fixed by the Railways will have to be paid at the luggage counter. This can avoid problems during travel.
