Indian Railway Rules For Ticket Transferring: If you are not travelling on your confirmed ticket then you do not need to cancel your ticket. You can transfer your ticket to someone else. Know how.
Indian Railways is called the lifeline of India. Every day millions of passengers travel by train in India. To avoid inconvenience in travelling, many passengers prefer to book tickets in reserved coaches of the train.
While booking a train reservation, many times the ticket goes into waiting list. This is the reason why many people book their tickets in advance so that they can get a confirmed seat. But it has been seen many times that people’s plans change just before the journey.
On such occasions people have to cancel their trip. In such a situation you also cancel your ticket. On which you get a refund. But after some money is deducted, but if you want you can try another method also.
You can also transfer your train to someone. That means you will not need to cancel your ticket. Someone else can travel on your booked ticket. But this facility is available only to those passengers who have booked tickets from the railway counter.
Passengers who book tickets online do not get this facility. Please note that you can use this facility provided by the Railways only once. The Railways has also laid down some rules for transferring tickets.
If someone wants to transfer their ticket, then they can transfer it only to their close family members which include parents, siblings, son, daughter, husband and wife. The ticket can be transferred only to them. No one else apart from them.
To transfer the ticket, you will have to go to the booking counter of the railway station 24 hours before the train departure. After that you will have to submit a written application there, the name in which the ticket is booked and the name in which it is to be transferred. Identity cards of both will be required. You will have to submit all these documents to the railway authority, after which the further process will be completed.
