While traveling by air, you can take only a limited amount of luggage with you. Similarly, this rule also applies while traveling by train. Most people don’t know about it and even those who do don’t care about it.
However, the Railway Department has been informing people from time to time that they should not travel with too much luggage in the train. If one has more luggage, he can use the luggage van for which he has to pay separately.
If you don’t know, we will tell you the maximum amount of luggage you can take with you on the train. You can carry luggage from 40 kg to 70 kg with you.
If you are traveling in a sleeper, you can travel with 40 kg of luggage on a single ticket. Similarly, in AC-2 and 3, you can travel with luggage up to 50 kg. If you are traveling in AC-1, you can travel with luggage up to 70 kg.
If the passenger is found to be traveling with excess baggage, he will have to pay a fine. If a passenger carries baggage exceeding the permitted weight for each class, he may be charged 1.5 times the baggage van fare. Now the passenger has to pay 1.5 times the fare to carry that luggage in the luggage van.
