Indian Railways luggage Limit: Indian Railways is improving its services day by day. Many new trains are being run including Vande Bharat, and efforts are also being made to provide comfortable travel to passengers. People traveling by train also carry heavy luggage with them. But do you know that you can carry luggage only within the prescribed limit in the train? For this, the Railways has provided information about how many kilograms of luggage can be carried in which coach. If someone crosses the prescribed limit, he may also have to pay a fine.

According to the railway rules, passengers can carry luggage weighing up to 70 kg for free in AC First Class, while they can carry up to 50 kg in AC 2 Tier. Apart from this, up to 40 kg of luggage can be carried for free in AC 3 Tier or Chair Car. Talking about Sleeper Class, passengers can carry up to 40 kg of weight with their ticket. In Second Class, this limit is 35 kg.

According to Indian Railways, trunks, suitcases and boxes whose external measurement is 100 cm x 60 cm x 25 cm (length x width x height) are allowed to be carried as luggage in passenger coaches. If the measurement of trunks, suitcases and boxes exceeds the prescribed limit, then such items should be booked and carried in the brake van, not in the passenger coach.

Apart from this, the maximum size of trunk/suitcase that can be carried in AC-3 tier and AC chair car coaches should be 55 cm x 45 cm x 22.5 cm. At the same time, passengers are banned from carrying many things in the train. This includes chemicals, firecrackers, gas cylinders, acid, grease, leather etc. If a passenger is found traveling with these banned items, strict action can be taken against him under Section 164.
