According to the Railway Ministry, in all reservation coaches in mail and express trains, there is a combined quota of 07 lower berths in each coach of sleeper class and 4 lower berths in each coach of third AC/second AC for senior citizens as well as women passengers of 45 years or more and pregnant women (with doctor’s certificate). Whereas in Rajdhani/Duronto or AC express trains, this quota is of 04 seats in second AC and 05 seats in third AC.
Separate quota for Garib Rath
In Garib Rath Express train, a quota of 06 berths in the third AC class is given to women, in which there is no age limit. This quota can be used only by women passengers, who are traveling alone or in a group of women. In trains with reservation facility, a quota of 06 berths in the sleeper class of Mail/Express is fixed for women.
This is how you get quota
According to the Railway Ministry official, in the use of quota seats for women, only single women or group of women will be reserved in this quota till the first reservation chart is prepared. After the first reservation chart is prepared, the seats of women quota will be first given to women waiting passengers. After this, the remaining berths of women quota will be given to senior citizens. After the first reservation chart is prepared, if the berths of women quota are left even after allotment of berths to single women passengers, then the working ticket checking staff will be able to allocate these berths to other women/senior citizens on RAC confirmed tickets. For this, they have to give priority in the reservation chart.
