This facility will be available if the train is late by two hours –
This facility will be provided in premium trains only when the train is late by more than two hours. Due to excessive fog or ongoing work on the railway tracks, the train may get delayed.
Passengers are inconvenienced when the train departs late from the station. Therefore, to compensate for such situations, Railways has started the facility of free food.
These options will be given –
In this, the passenger will be given the facility to choose the option of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Passengers can choose any of these options as per the time. Not only this, passengers can also choose between vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. In such a situation, passengers will definitely benefit from the delay in running of the train.
Free food will be available in these trains –
Indian Railways has implemented this rule in premium trains like Duronto, Rajdhani, Shatabdi. If any one of these trains is delayed by two hours, passengers will be provided free food without any charge.
After all, these are all trains that always reach their destination on time. The chances of them being late are also very less. Even if for some reason this happens, Indian Railways will provide free food facility keeping in mind its passengers.

Meanwhile, IRCTC will have to upgrade the kitchens mainly for preparing food in trains. This will improve the quality of food.
In terms of service, food trays will now be made of biodegradable material and packages with air tight covers will be provided in select Rajdhani and Duronto trains. Zonal Railways will have to manage small stationary units like food stalls, milk stalls, trolleys, except base kitchens and kitchen units.
