New Delhi. Soon the common man will not have to travel in expensive trains due to non-availability of seats. Seats will be available only in low-fare trains. In this way, common people will have the option to travel expensively or cheaply as per their convenience. To provide relief to the common people, Indian Railways has prepared a plan for the next two years to increase the production of non-AC coaches (general and sleeper). According to Indian Railways, it has planned to produce about 10,000 non-AC coaches in the next two years. The coaches to be introduced during the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26 are being finalized, including a record number of over 5300 general coaches.
According to officials, in the financial year 2024-25, Amrit Bharat General 2605 general coaches, Amrit Bharat Sleeper Coaches 1470 non-AC sleepers, 323 including Amrit Bharat SLR coaches, apart from 32 high capacity parcel vans and 55 pantry cars will be produced.
Similarly, in the financial year 2025-26, the railways plans to produce Amrit Bharat General 2710 general coaches, Amrit Bharat Sleeper Coach 1910 non-AC sleeper, Amrit Bharat SLR Coach 514 SLR coaches, 200 high-capacity parcel vans and 110 pantry cars. According to this, if we talk about the number of trains, then about 400 trains will be produced every year. It is important to know here that Amrit Bharat has more facilities than normal trains and the fare is about 17 percent higher.
At present, two-thirds are non-AC coaches
Most of the fight in trains is in non-AC class i.e. sleeper and general. However, two-thirds of the coaches are non-AC. Apart from the existing premium trains, the total number of coaches in mail, express and passenger is 68534. There are 44946 non AC sleeper and general coaches in this, while the number of AC coaches is 23588. However, these figures do not include the number of coaches of suburban i.e. local trains.
More than 95 percent of the people travel in non AC
Of the total passengers travelling by train, 95.3% are non-AC i.e. general and sleeper class. Whereas only 4.7% passengers travel in AC class.
