IPL 2021 Auction: Mini auction of IPL to be held in Chennai on February 18, know how much money the eight teams will be able to spend

The mini auction date for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been announced. This time the players auction will be held on February 18 in Chennai. It was informed on Wednesday (January 27) from the official Twitter handle of the tournament. The mini-auction will be held between India and England after the first two Tests in Chennai. The series will start from 5 February while the second Test will be played from 13 to 17 February.

The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) is yet to decide whether the IPL will be held in India or not. However, Board President Sourav Ganguly has repeatedly reiterated that every effort will be made to conduct the league on home ground. The 2020 phase was carried out in the UAE in September-November due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. The smooth conduct of India’s home series against England starting next month should open the way for a breathtaking league to be held at home. The Kings XI Punjab team has the highest amount (Rs 53.20 crore) for the auction. After this, Royal Challengers Bangalore have 35.90 crores and Rajasthan Royals have 34.85 crores. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have the same amount of Rs 10.75 crore for the auction. Chennai Superkings has Rs 22.90 crore, Mumbai Indians has Rs 15.35 crore and Delhi Capitals has Rs 12.90 crore. In this way, this time the auction will cost Rs 196.6 crores.

The deadline for retaining players expired on January 20 and the ‘trading window’ will close on February 4. Top Australian players such as Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell were released on the last date of retention by Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab respectively. Players such as Chris Morris, Harbhajan Singh and Aaron Finch were also released. The franchise teams retained a total of 139 players while 57 players were released.
