IRCTC Refund Rules: According to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), e-ticket cannot be canceled after the chart is prepared. Users are requested to use online TDR filing for such cases and track the status of the refund case through the tracking service provided by IRCTC. TDR can be filed as per railway rules.

IRCTC Refund Rules: Everyone travels by railway. Railways is called the backbone of India’s transportation. However, many times you have to make a lot of efforts to get a railway ticket but despite this you do not get a confirmed ticket. Once your railway ticket is confirmed, you cannot cancel it once the chart is prepared. But you can file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) to check whether you are eligible for a refund or not. In such cases, it will entirely depend on the zonal railway division to give you the refund. It will depend on the zonal railway office whether they accept the reason for filing the TDR request or not and how much refund you will get.

What does Railways have to say?

Indian Railways says, “Users are requested to use online TDR filing for such cases (cancellation of tickets after chart preparation) and track the status of the refund case through the tracking service provided by IRCTC. Do. TDR can be filed as per railway rules.” “However, please note that the decision regarding acceptance/rejection or amount of refund (through TDR) will be taken by the concerned zonal railway as per the extant refund rules of Indian Railways and not by IRCTC,” IRCTC said over e-mail. Remember that you can file TDR online only after canceling your confirmed railway ticket. For e-ticket, you can cancel it online and then file TDR. If you have purchased your ticket from the railway counter (i.e. offline), you will have to first cancel your ticket and then file the TDR. You can visit your nearest railway ticket booking counter to cancel your tickets.

IRCTC also said that “Refund will not be admissible on confirmed tickets if the ticket is not canceled or TDR is not filed online till four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.” Whereas, in case of RAC tickets, one has to cancel the ticket and file TDR till 30 minutes before the departure of the train.

How to get refund of railway tickets canceled after chart preparation?

After the chart is prepared, only TDR will have to be used to get refund on cancellation of railway tickets. If railway ticket is canceled before chart preparation, no TDR is required to be filed.

How to file TDR on IRCTC Rail Connect app?

1. Open the IRCTC Rail Connect app and log in.

2: Select ‘Train’ and then go to ‘My Bookings’.

3: Select the train ticket which needs to be canceled and click.

4: Click the menu button (represented by three dots) at the top right, then click ‘Cancel’.

5: Once canceled go back to the main dashboard of the ‘Train’ page. Click on ‘File TDR’. Then, select the train ticket and the reason for which you are filing the TDR request. There will be a drop-down menu to enter the reason, select the one that is relevant to you.
