IT Refund: Income Tax Department sent Rs 26276 crore to taxpayers during April-May in FY22, check refund status like this

The CBDT returned more than Rs 26,276 crore to over 15.47 lakh taxpayers between April 1, 2021 and May 31, 2021.




New Delhi. The Income Tax Department has so far refunded an amount of Rs 26,276 crore to 15.47 lakh taxpayers in the current financial year 2021-22 (FY22). These figures are of refunds issued between April 1 and May 31, 2021. Giving this information, the department said that Rs 7,538 crore has been issued to more than 15.02 lakh taxpayers under personal income tax head while Rs 18,738 crore has been issued to 44,531 taxpayers under company tax head.
The Income Tax Department said on Twitter, “CBDT has returned more than Rs 26,276 crore to more than 15.47 lakh taxpayers between April 1, 2021 and May 31, 2021.”

In the last financial year 2020-21, the Income Tax Department had issued a tax refund of Rs 2.62 lakh crore to 2.38 crore taxpayers. This is 43.2 percent more than the refund of Rs 1.83 lakh crore issued in the previous financial year 2019-20.

Check refund status like this

  • For this you have to go to the Income Tax e-filing website. Here you will login to your portal. For portal login, you need to enter your PAN number, e-filing password and captcha.
  •  As soon as your portal profile will open, after that you have to click on ‘View returns/forms’.
  • In the next step, you will submit by clicking on ‘Income Tax Returns’ from the drop down menu. After clicking on hyperlink acknowledgment number a new screen will open.
  •  On this screen you will get information about filing timeline, processing tax return. It will contain information about the date of filing, date of verification of return, date of completion of processing, date of issue of refund and payment refund.
  •  If your tax refund fails, then on this screen you will be told the reason why the return filed by you has failed.
