IT Refund: Income tax department sent Rs 5649 crore to taxpayers during April 1-19

In the last financial year 2020-21, the Income Tax Department had issued a tax refund of 2.62 lakh crore rupees to 2.38 crore taxpayers.




New Delhi. The Income Tax Department refunded Rs 5,649 crore to 7.39 lakh taxpayers in the current financial year 2021-22 (FY22). These figures are for refunds issued between April 1 and April 19, 2021. While giving this information on Wednesday, the department said that a personal income tax refund of Rs 3,073 crore has been given to 7.23 lakh taxpayers. At the same time, refund of Rs 2,577 crore has been given to 15,206 taxpayers in the corporate sector.

The Income Tax Department tweeted, “The Central Board of Direct Taxes has given a tax refund of Rs 5,649 crore to 7.39 lakh taxpayers during April 1 to 19.”

In the last financial year 2020-21, the Income Tax Department issued a tax refund of 2.62 lakh crore rupees to 2.38 crore taxpayers. This is 43.2 percent more than the Rs 1.83 lakh crore refund issued in the previous financial year 2019-20.

Check the status of refunds in this way

  • For this, you have to go to the income tax e-filing website. Here you will log your portal. For portal login, you have to fill your PAN number, e-filing password and captcha.
  • As soon as your portal profile opens, you will have to click on ‘View returns / forms’.
  • In the next step, you will click on ‘Income Tax Returns’ and submit from the drop down menu. After clicking on the hyperlink assessment number, a new screen will open.
  •  On this screen, you will get information about the timeline of filing, processing tax return. It will contain information about the date of filing, date of return confirmation, date of completion of processing, date of issue of refund and payment refund.
  •  If your tax refund fails, then on this screen you will be told the reason why the return filed by you has failed.
