ITR Filing: If for the first time some taxpayers will face some problems on the new portal of Income Tax, then the stepwise complete process of filing ITR for them is being given here.
ITR Filing on New Portal: The new portal of the Income Tax Department was launched by the Central Government earlier this month and now all tax related work will be settled on this new portal. According to the claim of the Income Tax Department, the new portal is more convenient for taxpayers. Taxpayers will now have to file ITR on this new portal. This will prove to be a better experience for the taxpayers due to the chatbot in the new portal and mobile apps of the portal. Information about its special features is being given below. Apart from this, since this is a new portal, some taxpayers will face some problems for the first time, then the stepwise complete process of filing ITR for them is also given below.
Special features of the new portal
- Along with PAN, one can also log in to the portal through Aadhaar and TAN.
- Resetting the password has become easy and can be reset by asking for an OTP on the mobile number linked to Aadhaar. OTP will not be received through e-mail.
- Static password facility is provided. This is beneficial for those taxpayers who have limited internet connection due to which there may be problem in getting OTP at the time of income tax transactions.
- Personalized messages have been activated as Secure Access Messages under ‘Your Profile’ section to prevent frauds from taxpayers i.e. they do not log on to any phishing website.
- Under a single dashboard, taxpayers will get information about pending actions, status of complaints filed, year wise returns and tax deposited etc. Earlier in the portal all this information was in many tabs but now it has been made available in one place only.
- The option to modify citizenship has also been given under the ‘Your Profile’ tab. This will benefit those taxpayers (especially Overseas Citizens of India) who had to file a letter with the tax officer to update the citizenship in the PAN database.
- Under the Profile section, an option has been given to update the bank account (including the account to which the refund is to be credited), demat account, source of income. These will be used for pre-filing of ITR after the return is filed by the companies or other stakeholders including banks. With this, taxpayers will not need to update these information frequently in their tax returns every year.
- Taxpayers can connect their Chartered Accountant (CA) so that they will be able to see the details of the taxpayers and take necessary steps regarding any complaint related to the filing of taxpayers. If the taxpayer himself cannot do any work related to tax himself for any particular reason, then he can authorize someone in his place.
- Taxpayers will be able to certify that any notice/order/letter issued by the tax authority is true or fake on the home page of the portal. With this, they will be able to avoid falling prey to fraud.
