Senior Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh Jitin Prasad joined BJP on Wednesday. He took membership of the party after reaching the BJP headquarters. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal got him the membership of BJP. Before reaching the party office, Jitin Prasad met Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP Chief JP Nadda and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. Welcoming Jitin Prasad to BJP, Piyush Goyal said that he has been engaged in the service of Uttar Pradesh for a long time. Goyal said that he was only 27 years old when his father Jitendra Prasad passed away. Since then he was engaged in the service of UP. He has played a big role in the politics of Uttar Pradesh.
Just before the UP elections, the Congress had suffered a setback. In the
last assembly elections, the Congress had tried to cultivate the Brahmin fraternity and had also declared Sheila Dikshit as the CM candidate before the announcement of the alliance with the SP. Jitin Prasad is considered to have a good hold in this community. Apart from this, Jitin Prasad is one of those leaders of Congress, whose image has been clean and he has been beyond controversies. In such a situation, his going to BJP is a big setback for Congress.
