Layoff News: Walmart Inc., the world’s largest retailer and America’s largest private player, has prepared for major layoffs. The company is preparing to fire thousands of people and is also asking most of the remote workers to come back to the office. There are a lot of news regarding this in the foreign media.
According to reports, employees from smaller offices like Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto are being asked to move to bigger hubs. Walmart runs 4600 stores in America alone. According to regulatory filings, about 21 lakh people were working in the company at the beginning of this year. The company has been planning to reduce its workforce for the last one year.
The company had said in April 2023 that by 2026, about 65 percent of the company’s stores would come under automation. In December 2022, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon told investors that automated warehouses would eliminate the need for many employees.
Many companies have done layoffs
It is not that people are being fired from jobs only in Walmart. Layoffs are also going on in big companies like Google, Apple and Tesla. Google had recently announced a major layoff and after some time, almost half of its Python team was fired. Some time back, there was news of more than 600 people being fired from their jobs in Apple too. Tesla has also laid off about 6000 employees.
