Amazon Layoffs: Amazon is laying off more than 180 employees in its games division. The company has shut down its Crown channel which streams on Twitch. The company has shut down Game Growth, which helps game makers market their products, and refocused on its work with free games offered from Prime Gaming.
Amazon is getting rid of its gaming content channel amid the layoffs, according to a memo sent to employees by Christoph Hartmann, vice president of Amazon Games, and seen by The Verge. “After further evaluation of our business, it became clear that we need to focus our resources and efforts on providing great games to players now and in the future,” Hartmann wrote in the memo.
In April this year, Amazon laid off more than 100 employees across its gaming divisions, including Prime Gaming, Game Growth and Amazon Games. According to Hartmann, after the initial restructuring in April, it became clear that we needed to focus our resources even more on areas that have the potential to drive growth in our business.
