Know the new system of income tax department if you want to treat Covid

At present, the Income Tax Department rules that any person can make a cash payment of up to a maximum of two lakh rupees (Maximum 2 Lakh) for the purchase of an item or service. But it is costing more for the treatment of Kovid-19. For the treatment of hospitalized patients, they are either taking cash or through digital payment. They are not taking the check. In such a situation, the families of those patients are facing problems who keep cash or work with checks.

Along with this, the number of Covid-19 patients is increasing in hospitals and dispensaries. In such a situation, a rule of the Income Tax Department is becoming a hindrance in the payment of treatment . This barrier has been removed. But this discount is only till May 31.

There was a rule for cash payment of up to two lakh rupees

At present, the rule of the Income Tax Department is that any person can make a cash payment of up to a maximum of two lakh rupees for the purchase of any goods or services. But it is taking more money to treat Kovid-19. For the treatment of hospitalized patients, either taking cash or through digital medium. They are not taking the check. In such a situation, the families of those patients are facing problems who keep cash or work with checks. Many people still do not make digital payments due to ignorance or fear of digital fraud.

The government has exempted hospitals, dispensaries and covid care centers treating Kovid-19 infection to accept cash payments of more than two lakh rupees from patients or their dependents. However, this exemption will remain in force till 31 May. For this, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued a notification in this regard. For this, the hospital will have to keep a copy of the PAN and Aadhaar card copy of the patient and the payer and link both.

What has CBDT said


The CBDT said, ‘The Central Government .. makes it clear that the treatment of hospitals, dispensaries, nursing homes, covid care centers or other medical facilities of a covid patient in relation to Section 269 ST of the Income Tax Act 1961 from 1 April 2021 to 31 May 2021 Till the cash payment, the information about the relationship between the patient and the person paying on his behalf will be PAN or Aadhaar and the patient pays.
