In 2014, the Modi government started the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) to connect the families of all of the country to the banking system. In today’s date, people are getting the benefit of many types of government schemes through Jan Dhan accounts.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was started in August 2014. Its purpose is to financially strengthen low-income people by financially helping them. Still people who do not have any other bank account can open their account in the bank under this scheme.
To open a Jan Dhan account, you have to fill a form in the bank. In it, name, mobile number, bank branch name, applicant’s address, nominee, business / employment and annual income and number of dependents, SSA code or ward number, village code or town code are to be given.
Any Indian citizen can apply for opening an account under this scheme. The age of the applicant should be at least 10 years. You can open a Jan Dhan account by going to any nearest bank or through a bank friend. Holders on an account opened under PMJDY can also take a loan up to Rs 10,000 after 6 months as a loan.
The biggest feature of Jan Dhan account is that it is a zero balance account, that is, there is no problem of minimum balance. It was started to connect the general public with banks and to provide them financial services like insurance and pension.

you have an old bank account, then it is easy to convert it into Jan Dhan account. For this, you will have to go to the bank branch and apply for RuPay card and after filling a form, your bank account will be transferred to Jan Dhan Yojana.
Benefits of Jan Dhan account
Dhan account RuPay card is provided to PMJDY account holders. On which insurance cover of up to 1 lakh rupees was available. But accident insurance cover of up to 2 lakh rupees is available on Jan Dhan account opened after 28 August 2018. That is, on opening an account under this scheme, you get Rupees ATM card, accident insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh, life cover of Rs 30000 and interest on the deposit amount.
If you maintain minimum balance in Jan Dhan account then you get overdraft facility of Rs 10,000. An overdraft is a type of loan. You can withdraw this money from your account at the time of need.
How to check through missed call, how much amount is there in Jan Dhan account, you can check in two ways while sitting at home. You can find out by making a missed call from your registered mobile number. Apart from this, one can also check through PFMS portal. SBI account holders can know their balance by calling from the registered phone number on 18004253800 or 1800112211.
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana and Micro Development and Refinance Agency Bank schemes are available in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan account. During the lockdown last year, the central government sent an installment of 500-500 rupees to the accounts of 20 crore women in April, May and June for three months.
