KolKata News: Actor removed from drama on joining BJP, reactions started coming on internet media

Kolkata, State Bureau. An actor from a theater group known for staging plays on socio-economic subjects in Bengal has been forced out of the play after he joined the BJP. Writer director Saurabh Palodhi posted on his official Facebook account that actor Kaushik Kar has been removed from the play due to his joining the BJP. Palodhi’s play ‘Ghoom Nei’ is based on Utpal Dutt’s classic drama which depicts the current political situation of the country through the spectacles of Left ideology. Kar was called by Palodhi’s group ‘Ichhemoto’ to play a character in 2019.

The character was inspired by the 2015 Dadri case in which a young man was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of ‘beef’. Palodhi is of leftist ideology. He posted on Facebook three days ago, ‘We are removing Kaushik Kar from’ Ghoom Nei ‘with immediate effect as he has joined BJP. At the moment, this reason is sufficient to remove him from the play. There can be no place for communal elements in the drama of the working class. The theater group will soon announce the date for the next show of ‘Ghoom Nei’.

There has been a lot of reactions on the internet media regarding this post. In which it is being asked whether this is an example of freedom of an artist? Is this a democratic right? Should an artist be judged on the basis of left or right ideology …? Which political party a person wants to go to, it should be left to him. No one has the right to interfere in it. Palodhi said that he is firm on his decision as the play is contrary to the ideology of the BJP and no person associated with that party can be a part of ‘Ghoom Nei’.

He said that knowing Kaushik Kar’s current political identity, his association with the play would be an injustice to the basic spirit of the play and the working class for which it was created. Describing the entire incident as ‘an expression of leftist fascism’, Kar said that an inexperienced person who has no connection with the public and who does not know the progressive cultural history, is giving a speech on communalism and such a person Can decide. He said that I am surprised by this unilateral decision.
