New Delhi : The Ministry of Labor and Employment on Friday announced to increase the variable dearness allowance (variable DA) of more than 1.5 crore workers in the central sector from Rs 105 to Rs 210 per month. This increase will come into effect from April 1, 2021. This will also increase the minimum wage rate for employees and workers working in the central sector.
Dearness allowance doubled
It is for the employees associated with various scheduled employments of the Central Government. The prescribed rates for scheduled employment apply to establishments under the authority of railway administration, mines, oil fields, major ports or any corporation established by the central government under the Central Government. These rates are equally applicable for both contract and temporary employees / workers. In this regard, Chief Labor Commissioner DPS Negi said, “Dearness allowance has been increased from Rs. 105 to Rs. 210 per month for employees associated with various scheduled employments of the Central Government.” The ministry said in a statement that it has notified the revised variable DA from April 1, 2021.
Revision based on CPI-IW
According to the statement, this will benefit the workers associated with various scheduled jobs of the central government at a time when the country is facing the second wave of Kovid-19 epidemic. The variable DA is revised based on the average consumer price index (CPI-IW) for industrial workers. It is compiled by the Labor Bureau.
One and a half million employees will benefit
The average CPI-IW from July to December 2020 has been used to amend the variable DA. Union Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said, ‘This step will benefit about 1.50 crore employees of the country who are associated with various scheduled employments of the Central Government. Increase in variable DA will help them in difficult times of this pandemic. ‘
