Land Purchase Ban: Government announcement..! Now you cannot buy land in this state, know the reason

Land Reform: In hilly states, from time to time there is a demand to protect the rights of local residents. People allege that rich people from the plain states are buying cheap land here.

Land Reform: Due to the difficult life of the residents of hilly states, there is a constant demand to give them special status. Along with this, efforts to save the culture, lifestyle, food and land also continue continuously. Now, to save the land in the mountains, the Uttarakhand government has banned outsiders other than the residents of the state from purchasing land for farming and horticulture. This decision was taken in a high level meeting chaired by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Restrictions only on farming and horticulture land

According to the information given by the Uttarakhand government, this interim ban has been imposed only on farming and horticulture land. With the help of this ban, the interests of the residents of the state will be protected. Also, a five-member committee has been formed, which will submit its report to the government on land related laws. DMs of all districts have been instructed not to approve the sale of land for agriculture or horticulture to residents of any other state.

Could buy land with DM’s approval

In the year 2024, changes were made in Section 154 of the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reform Act, 1950. According to this, people who did not own property in the state before September 12, 2003, can buy land for agriculture or horticulture with the approval of the DM. Now this has been banned. Uttarakhand government said that this decision has been taken in the interest of the people and the state.

Investigation into the buyer’s background and reasons will also continue.

Talking to the media on the new year, Pushkar Singh Dhami said that in May last year, we had decided that the background of the buyer would be checked before any land deal. Besides, the reasons for purchasing the land will also be investigated. Now we have banned the sale of agricultural land. Verification will continue for all remaining deals.

A five-member committee has been formed

The government had also constituted a five-member Land Law Committee under the leadership of Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi on December 22, 2023. On December 24, a rally was taken out in Dehradun demanding declaration of 1950 as the domicile cut-off date and making of stringent land laws like Himachal Pradesh.
