Company gave information in notice
According to the news, Qualcomm, one of the most prominent companies manufacturing smartphone chips, is going to do layoffs. The brunt of the layoff is going to fall on 226 employees of the company. The company has given this information under the California WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act. According to the information given ten weeks ago, the layoff is going to be implemented in the week starting from November 12.
These employees are being affected
Qualcomm is going to do this layoff from its 16 facilities located in San Diego. The effect of the layoff is also going to fall on the employees working in the company’s headquarters. The cybersecurity team also works in the company’s headquarters, but the company has not yet given any details about whether the layoffs will affect this team as well.
The company gave this reason for the layoffs
A Tech Crunch report quoted a company spokesperson as saying that the layoffs are being done due to a change in business strategy. The spokesperson says – As part of the normal business process, we prioritize aligning our investments, resources and talent in such a way that we can make the most of unexpected opportunities for diversification.
So many layoffs have happened this year
Earlier during the month of August, big companies like Intel, Cisco and IBM had done layoffs. Intel had announced layoffs of 15 thousand employees. Cisco had informed about the decision to lay off 6 thousand employees and IBM had informed about the decision to lay off 1 thousand employees. During the month of August, 27 thousand employees were laid off by various companies and with that the number of layoffs this year reached 1 lakh 36 thousand.
