Bima Sakhi Yojna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Life Insurance Corporation of India’s (LIC) ‘Bima Sakhi Yojna’. Under this, two lakh women insurance agents will be appointed in the next three years. Under the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojna’ of public sector insurance company LIC, women who have passed 10th standard and are between the ages of 18-70 will be made insurance agents to empower them.
These women will be given special training for the first three years to promote financial literacy and insurance awareness. Under the Bima Sakhi Yojna, women agents will be given Rs 7,000 monthly in the first year, Rs 6,000 monthly in the second year and Rs 5,000 monthly in the third year. Apart from this, Bima Sakhis will also get the benefit of commission. LIC plans to appoint two lakh Bima Sakhis in three years.
After getting training, these women can work as LIC agents. Graduate Bima Sakhis will get a chance to work as development officers in LIC. PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University, Karnal. The main campus and six regional research stations are spread over 495 acres which will be set up at a cost of over Rs 700 crore.
Prime Minister Modi said that the Bima Sakhi Yojana will help in achieving the goal of insurance for all. It is important that women get enough opportunities to move forward and all obstacles in their way are removed. About 1.15 crore women have become ‘Lakhpati Didi’, the target is to increase it to three crore.
