Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: There is a bad news for the liquor lovers living in the national capital. Due to the Delhi Assembly elections, liquor shops will remain closed in the capital for about four days in February next month. The Delhi government has ordered liquor shops and other establishments serving liquor in the city to remain closed from February 3 to 5 on the day of polling and on the day of declaration of results on February 8. Assembly elections are to be held on February 5 for all 70 seats in Delhi. While the results will be declared on February 8.
A recent notification issued by the Delhi Excise Commissioner has declared ‘dry day’ under the Excise Rules-2010 for various excise licenses on the day of polling and counting day for the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
A notification said, “It is ordered that there will be a dry day from 6 pm on February 3 to 6 pm on February 5 (during the 48 hours ending with the time fixed for the end of polling) and on February 8 on the day of counting.”
Hotels, restaurants and clubs to remain closed
The notification states that during the dry day, liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and establishments selling or serving liquor will not be allowed to sell or serve liquor to anyone.
It states that non-owned clubs, star hotels, restaurants and others, and hotels operated by anyone even if they have been issued licenses of various categories for keeping and supplying liquor. They should also not be allowed to serve liquor during this period.
Delhi Elections 2025
The schedule of elections shows that the only session of voting for the Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 5. The counting of votes will be done on February 8. That is, the results are expected to be declared on the same day. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) looks in good shape, eyeing another term after winning the last two elections by huge margins.
AAP has managed to win two consecutive elections. Arvind Kejriwal’s party won 67 out of 70 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020. 699 candidates are contesting for 70 assembly seats in the upcoming elections, up from 672 in 2020. Within the constituencies, AAP and Congress have fielded candidates in all constituencies. While the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded candidates on 68 seats. At the same time, 2 seats have been kept for its alliance partners.
