The Finance Minister had said that one crore more beneficiaries will be brought under the purview of this scheme. Let us know how you can apply for this scheme and what are its benefits.
Who benefits in Ujjwala scheme?
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the government provides domestic kitchen gas or LPG connections to families living below the poverty line. The scheme is being run in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana was launched by PM Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Under this scheme, more than 5 crore LPG connections have been made available to BPL families. Under the scheme, BPL families get financial assistance of Rs 1600 for an LPG connection. The price of Rs 1600 per connection includes cylinders, pressure regulators, booklets, safety houses etc. and it is borne by the government. Customers have to buy the stove themselves.
To reduce the financial burden on them, the government allows the cost of stove and first filled cylinder to be paid in monthly installments. The connection is issued in the name of the women of the family. This helps in empowerment of women, especially in rural India.
Women can apply in Ujjwala scheme
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala scheme, a woman from BPL family can apply to get a gas connection. For this, your customer i.e. KYC form will have to be submitted in the nearby LPG center. For this, Jan Dhan bank account number, account number of all household members, Aadhaar number and home address are required in detail. While applying under the scheme, it is also required to provide information that the beneficiary has to take a 14.2 kg cylinder or he needs a small gas cylinder of 5 kg.
Prime Minister can download form from Ujjwala scheme website. The connection is issued by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) after processing the application.
