Currently the government gives subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder. However, there are some rules in it, subsidy is available only after their fulfillment. The government can increase the amount of subsidy.
Gas subsidy may increase
The government had recently given relief to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme in the month of October. The government has increased the subsidy on LPG gas cylinder from Rs 200 to Rs 300. Now the government can increase this subsidy to Rs 500 in the budget. That means, you will save Rs 500 on every cylinder purchase. To reduce the burden of inflation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is giving a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder to 9 crore beneficiaries under the PM Ujjwala scheme. The beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme are expecting increase in this subsidy from the budget. People hope that the government should increase it to Rs 500 in the budget.
The government had increased the subsidy last year
Last year, the government had increased the gas subsidy from Rs 200 to Rs 300 by 2023. For common people, the current price of 14.2 kg LPG in Delhi is around Rs 903. Whereas the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme are now getting it for Rs 603. They are getting a subsidy of Rs 300 on gas cylinder. A total of 10.35 crore people in the country are taking advantage of cheap gas cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme. Under this scheme, LPG connections will be given to about 75 lakh houses in the country in the next three years.
Finance Minister will present the budget on 1 February
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present the last budget of the second term of the Modi government because after that Lok Sabha elections are going to be held across the country. Before this, the government will present the interim budget on 1 February 2024. In such a situation, the government can capitalize on its vote bank and especially focus on women.
