Man dies due to momos, AIIMS issues warning

New Delhi: A strange incident has come to light from the capital Delhi, where a person has died due to the popular street food momos. It is being told that the person died due to momos getting stuck in his throat. After this incident, experts from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have issued a warning to make momo aware of the possibility of getting stuck in the throat due to its slippery consistency and small size. . In the warning issued by AIIMS, it has been said to swallow momos carefully. Available with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, momos are a popular Asian dish that people love to eat.

Momos are usually prepared by steaming, but over the years, many variations have emerged, including fry, tandoori, gravy and chocolate momos. Momos are a popular street food dish in Indian regions like Sikkim, Assam, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh.

The AIIMS report published in Forensic Imaging has revealed the case of death of a 50-year-old man due to suffocation from momos. It is being told that the person was allegedly brought to AIIMS from South Delhi. In this case, the investigation of the police further revealed that the person fell down after eating momos at a shop. During the post-mortem, a CT scan revealed that the man died of suffocation due to the trapping of momos in the throat.

After the matter came to light, AIIMS issued a warning to ‘swallow momos with caution’. Dr Abhishek Yadav, who is the author of the report and an additional professor in the department of forensics at AIIMS, also spoke about the suffocation hazard posed by the slippery momos.

He explained that the cause of death in this unique case was concluded as neurogenic cardiac arrest, which was caused by the entrapment of Momo and it was found to be located at the entrance of the Momo larynx. He further told that the size of momos is 5×3 cm, so people should swallow this type of food very carefully.
