A massive protest took place on Saturday outside the office of the Financial Action Task Force in France. People demanded from FATF, the global organization that monitors the financing of terrorism, that Pakistan should be put on the black list.

These protesters included people from Afghan, Baloch and Uyghur communities. They reached the FATF office to remind them how big a role Pakistan is playing in spreading terrorism.

A video related to this demonstration has also been shared by Pakistani journalist Taha Siddiqui on her Twitter account. In which people are seen standing with placards against Pakistan. Ahead of the meeting of the FATF Plenary and Working Group in Paris, analysts say that Pakistan has not met the given conditions. In such a situation, Pakistan can be put in the black list of the Global Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Money Laundering Organization (FATF).

Pakistan is in gray list since 2018

Pakistan is on the gray list of FATF since June 2018. This gray listing has adversely affected its imports, exports and limited access to international credit. Since becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has been continuously saying that Pakistan should be taken out of the gray list. While they have not fulfilled the conditions of FATF. Experts say that the Pakistan government has failed to take action against terrorist organizations. He also knelt in front of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Big blow to the economy

The government of Pakistan is also ready to hold talks with the Afghan Taliban (TLP), as if it is not a terrorist organization. A media report quoted Pakistani economist Dr Nafe Sardar as saying, “If the FATF puts Pakistan on the ‘Black List’, then financial punishment and other restrictive measures will be adopted.” This will be a big blow to the troubled economy of Pakistan. Whose economy has seen a decline of about $38 billion during 2008-2019 due to gray-listing of FATP. According to Global Satrate View, there are strong indications that Pakistan may be put on the ‘Black List’.
