NMC Guidelines for New MBBS Curriculum: The syllabus of MBBS is going to change in the country. The National Medical Commission is preparing to launch a competency based curriculum in medical education in India. It has been named CBME curriculum. NMC has also issued guidelines in this regard.
New MBBS Syllabus for Medical Education in India by NMC: There is big news for those who are studying medicine or preparing for NEET. The pattern of medical education in India has been changed. The National Medical Commission (NMC) is now going to implement the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum in MBBS studies. New guidelines have been issued regarding this. The new CBME guidelines will be mandatory for all medical colleges in India. The institutions will have to strictly follow them. These guidelines will replace the previous curriculum and will be applicable from the MBBS batch of 2024-25.
What is CBME Curriculum in MBBS?
The full form of CBME is – Competency Based Medical Education. This curriculum is designed for a new generation of Indian medical graduates. It will prepare new doctors to work as primary health care providers to the people. It will equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills and vision for that.
Unlike the traditional syllabus that emphasizes theoretical knowledge, the CBME curriculum focuses on practical competence and real world applications. 1. Outcome Based Learning
The new curriculum moves away from broad competencies and focuses on detailed and page specific subject competencies. This ensures that students are not only familiar with theoretical concepts but can also apply them in practical scenarios. 2. Integrated Approach
There is an emphasis on moving forward by connecting subjects both vertically and horizontally. Horizontal integration means aligning topics in different subjects in one phase. Whereas vertical integration combines subjects in different phases. This approach helps students understand the inter-connection of various medical subjects. 3. Ethics & Communication
The new NMC guidelines emphasize on the development of ethical values, communication skills and professionalism. A new module called AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics and Communication) has been introduced, which focuses on developing these essential things in future doctors.
