Metro Alcohol Rules: DMRC issued a new advisory regarding carrying liquor bottles in the metro, Detail here

Metros operate in the National Capital Region (NCR), connecting Delhi as well as cities like Faridabad, Gurgaon in Haryana and Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) in Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has said that the excise rules of the respective state will apply in the case of allowing passengers to carry two sealed bottles of liquor in the Delhi Metro. In June last year, the DMRC had allowed two sealed bottles of liquor per person in metro trains, to which the Delhi government had objected, saying that it was against the excise rules.

Metro trains run in the National Capital Region (NCR), connecting Delhi as well as cities like Faridabad, Gurgaon in Haryana and Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) in Uttar Pradesh.

DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar told PTI, “Whatever the Delhi government has authorised us is permitted. Excise rules of that state apply.” A senior Excise Department official said that as per the Excise Act, only one sealed bottle of liquor like rum, vodka and whisky can be carried from one state to another.

The official said metro trains carry passengers between Delhi and NCR cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad and allowing any person to carry two sealed bottles would be a violation of the Act.

DMRC Chief Executive Director Anuj Dayal said, “We are not specifying the number of bottles, one or two. Since we are working in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, whatever is the excise law of the state, it will apply.” The DMRC said that metro train passengers are expected to follow the existing rules and regulations of the respective state excise department regarding carrying liquor during cross-border transportation.
