Delhi News: The number of coaches has finally been increased in some of the metro trains running on the Red Line, the oldest and first corridor of Delhi Metro. Two additional coaches each have been extended in 36 percent of the metro trains running on this route. Due to which the train with increased coaches now has eight coaches instead of six. Now 14 metro trains of eight coaches are running on this corridor.
According to DMRC, in the next eight months, two additional coaches will be added to the remaining 25 trains of the Red Line. After this, all metro trains on this corridor will be of eight coaches. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation started the process of procuring 120 coaches for the Blue, Yellow and Red lines in the year 2018. By April 2021, these coaches were also purchased. The Blue and Yellow lines are the busiest corridors of the Delhi Metro. Therefore, first of all, the six-coach metro trains running on both these corridors were converted into eight-coach trains. Under this, 18 new coaches were used in nine trains of Blue Line. Whereas 24 coaches were used in 12 Metro trains of Yellow Inn.
39 metro operations on red line
The 34.55 km long Red Line is also one of the busy corridors of the Metro. 39 metro trains operate on this corridor. Earlier all these trains were of six coaches. The process of increasing coaches in these trains has been slow. In November last year, two additional coaches were added to two trains of this corridor. After this, 12 additional trains have been converted into eight coaches in six months. That’s why there have been a total of 14 trains of eight coaches.

At present, 25 trains of six coaches are plying on this corridor. Due to this, commuters have to face heavy rush in the metro during rush hour. DMRC says that it technically takes time to prepare it for operation by adding two additional coaches to the metro. Metro operates till late night and starts operating before six in the morning. That’s why very less time is available for maintenance and technical work. During this, the maintenance work has to be done on priority basis. The target is to convert the remaining 25 trains into eight coaches by March next year.
